There are trillions of microbes living in the human microbiome of your body. Even though these microbes are in all living things, we know very little about them and the invisible communities they create. What do they look like under a microscope? How do they interact? How do they affect our health and minds and emotions? How do they help ecosystems thrive?

In April 2017, The Arts Center will open the exhibit “Microbiomes: To See the Unseen.” The exhibit will feature art and writing inspired by microbiome science. If you’d like to start working on a piece of writing or art to submit to the juried show, join us on August 25 from 1:00 to 4:30 for a tour of the OSU microbiology labs. The tour will be hosted by Jerri Bartholomew, the Emile F. Pernot Distinguished Professor of the Department of Microbiology and an accomplished glass artist. The tour will include time to look in microscopes and learn about microbiome research at OSU.

To register send an email to Hester Coucke, The Arts Center Curator of Public Programs (hester@theartscenter.net). Hester will send you information about where to meet when you register. Space is limited.

Writers: Sping Creek Project will post information about how to submit your microbiome writing in September.

Artists: Please visit The Arts Center website for more information about submitting your piece: http://theartscenter.net/dec-1-2016-deadline-microbiomes-to-see-the-unseen/
